DDD 2009

I see it, but I don't believe it.

I didn't take down the license plate so this is where I'll vent my shock and amusement about a clueless driver. It was Sunday night in Seattle along South Lake Union. I was coming up on a red light and an old, faded van that was already at the intersection was stopped halfway onto the crosswalk -- but it was the back half! The front half of the van was in the intersection! Fortunately for him or her there was no crossing traffic so no one was being blocked, but I still had to wonder about how this happened. Did the driver just not notice the light was red until he or she started going through the intersection? Is the acceleration on the van so bad that he or she immediately stopped when the light turned yellow? Anyway, unfortunately for me the driver was going the same way I was going, so I had to follow him or her onto Mercer. And the driver kept drifting between lanes until eventually settling on the far left lane. And I don't mean constantly changing lanes -- I mean this driver may not have realized there were two lanes and was occupying both of them. Then on the on ramp to the freeway, this driver ignored all signs that said the leftmost lane was for getting onto the express way only, so when coming up on the split for the express way and regular freeway, this driver drove straight instead of curving left, cutting off the person in the other lane in order to get onto the regular freeway.
