Tossing Cigarettes

Try this topic... tossing cigarettes

Vehicle: Chevy Colorado
Color: Black
Location: Pensacola, FL

A few days ago, I saw a Navy Chief toss a cigarette out the window while at a traffic light.

1. Who thinks that is not a worthwhile flag here and who thinks it is bad enough to be mentioned? Is is real littering or bad enough to start a fire in the right circumstances OR it is not a serious situation.

2. Who thinks that I should not mention that he is a Navy Chief? I do respect the US military (I was one) but since he was in uniform and had Navy stickers with the Chief symbol, it was plain that he was not concerned to be identified with the Navy while tossing the cigarette out on the street.

Some wanted a good discussion. Others have left because of trolls. We'll see if we get a mature discussion or a insult match.

I can’t imagine a debate over tossing cigarettes out the window. Both littering and fire hazard come to mind as you’ve pointed out. No matter how you want to view it, it’s wrong.

I doubt he gave it much thought. It becomes habit. The problem is compounded by many cars no longer having ashtrays.  My current truck, 8 cup holders but not a single ashtray. 4 12 volt ports but not a single cigarette lighter. The auto industry understands fewer of us are smoking.

It's true....less smokers....less receptacles for the habit....needs to be a joint next time...!et they'd find a place to put that out INSIDE the vehicle.......[:»

Thanks for the good responses.  I had not thought of the lack of ashtrays. I suppose that's because I'm not a smoker, never have been, never will be. But there are probably accessories that can be added to make an ashtray-like device. Maybe something that fits into one of the cup holders. Though, there are also hands-free devices to keep people from having to hold their cell phone up to their ear and being able to have both hands on the wheel, but people don't do that either. The most riduculous are those who have the phone in one hand up to their ear and the other hand holding the wheel with three finders while the first two finders are holding a cigarette.

My view is that this is NOT driving behavior, it is smoker's behavior. The guy would've tossed the butt whether he was driving down the road or walking down the road. Makes no difference to me if he was a Navy Chief. Smokers come from all walks of life.

I post cigarette tossers on litterbutt.com - a specialty site for specific bad behavior. Certain states actually use the posts to warn the car owner of the activity.

Cigarette tossing is littering, and illegal, and dangerous if the conditions are dry. It's also rude, and disrespectful. If you don't want it in your car, what makes you think we want it on the street? AO

I am a smoker, but I use either a soda can or a water bottle to put my cigarettes in rather than throwing them out the window!
