Location Boston   (Massachusetts)
Incident There is a spot on 93 South heading into Boston where there is traffic merging in from the left and right lanes, and the HOV-lane is all the way on the left, and the closest exit--to the airport--is all the way on the right, after two lanes of traffic merge in from the right. If you have done it before you know it can be kind of stressful but that is just how this one short stretch of road is. Put on your blinkers, check over your shoulder, and make your moves. As someone in the middle lanes, you should be ready for people making quick lane changes and let them in. This guy today was apparently not ready and didn't like that I made my lane change in front of him--safely and with a signal. He went into full road-rage mode. He switched lanes erratically all around me. If I switched a lane, he switched too, staying in front of me. He took the exit in front of me and slowed and sped up erratically in the Big Dig tunnel, causing a long line to form behind us as he braked, honked, yelled out his window, and gave the finger again and again. It was bizarre, scary, and I was certainly happy when I took the final exit to the airport and he sailed on to Winthrop (still yelling and giving the finger--I gave him a thumbs up just to mess with him). Honestly by the end I felt really sad and sorry for him. Why was he so easily angered by such a normal driving experience? Why was he so unhappy that somebody just merging in front of him could make him throw a tantrum that a 3-year-old would envy? I wonder if he goes home to a family and yells and beats on them. A sad, angry man--making a dangerous situation for many, many people on the road. I reported him as an erratic driver to 911 and felt compelled to come here as well. Watch out for this one!
