Slow Lane

I wish drivers that are not going to do the speed limit would drive in the slow lane. That is one of the problems with Arkansas drivers, along with not being able to merge. If you are not able to drive the speed limit then stay on the access roads or in the slow lane and don't cause traffic to pile up behind you. The highways in Arkansas are bad enough without help from slow drivers wanting to be the passing lane constantly.

I've driven all over the world and there are problems everywhere.  I've only lived in Arkansas a few years but it didn't take long to see that driving in the fast lane is a severe problem here.  The state doesn't help matters much by putting up signs that says "slower traffic keep right".  If you don't think you're slow, why would you get over?  Most states have signs that say "Left lane for passing only" or "Keep right except to pass".

I apologize to any good Arkansas drivers but I'm thinking all you need to get a drivers license here is a foot and an eye.  Oh, and you must hand in you turn signal lever, since you WON'T be using that in Arkansas!

I'm joking....kind of.

The RIGHT lane is for normal traffic.  The LEFT lane is a PASSING lane.  Not the fast lane as many believe.  This does NOT give people the right to enforce speeding laws, by hanging out in the LEFT or PASSING lane.  If you are doing 85 mph in the LEFT lane, and someone is on your bumper wanting to go 95 mph.  LET THEM BY!  MOVE OVER to the right lane.  State law prohibits staying in the Left lane.  If your not passing, get the hell out of the way.

And by all means learn how to merge.  When it says merge ahead, merge RIGHT THEN.   Do you notice once you get to the barrells or the single lane, things move smoothly and steadily?  Thats b/c there arent any morons trying to cut in front of the line at the last possible moment.   It these people we are waiting on way back in line.

that's funny cause Arkansas doesn't believe in population growth just look at the River Bridge.....no shoulder, no room for lane increase...nothing....and yet so much money is spent on resurfacing...but that lasts for what, 6 months??? Arkansas would have to beg for a "baby lane " and that would take a lifetime...after all, i'm a native Arkie and we only have 3 main interstates that go through the entire state...Arkansas never wanted "growth" and it shows in the road system...Wjoever designed Arkansas interstate system should be hanged...Exit roads pitted into oncoming traffic???? HELLO Crashes!!!???? What were they thinking?????

Dahmer, as much as I hate to say it... the merge sign is a joke.  If you are in bumper to bumper traffic... you are either the idiot in the lane accepting mergers or the idiot in the merging lane.  One piece of advice... don't sit in that lane if 20 cars just pass you on the right.  What is that going to accomplish?  You getting angry.  It is not the 20 cars' faults that your lane is moving slowly... it's Department of Transportation for your state.  They planned the merge lane and knows it will be a bottleneck.  Sorry.  But don't get angry at the 20 cars because it is not their fault the highway was planned that way.

But I agree with the post regarding the passing lane not being a fast lane.  I have too many friends who think it's their privelege to be there and get really steamed if someone is riding their bumper in that lane.  Hello - get a clue and let them pass!

Folks----I don't see things getting better.  Matter of fact, they will likely get worse.  If law enfocement aint going to teach them about the left lane thing-----I think it now falls to the rest of us daily drivers to educate them!  Be proactive about it.  Lend a hand, crowd them till they honk at you.  Get in front of them and alternate your turn signals and slow down where they'll take notice.  I like to take a digital camera with me wherever I go.  Roll the window down and ask them to smile (be sure and get the tag number in your photo).

Oh that's real smart... taking pictures while you are ticked that you are going 65.  Oh wait, this is R-Kansas.
